Your Guide To The Best Night Time Beauty Routine: The Night Passport

Work, meetings, kids, meals, cleaning- it seems like the day's work is never done! By the time darkness falls, you're ready to hit the pillow hard. But before you crash, you need to spend some time giving your skin some attention.

It may seem unimportant, but neglecting your skin at nighttime can be a huge mistake. After all, your cells regenerate faster at night and are more receptive to the ingredients in creams and other products, so showing your skin some love with a serum or mask can give your complexion the rest and renewal it needs to wake up brighter and more beautiful. That gives a whole new meaning to the term "beauty rest"!

1. Brush Your Teeth

Start by touching up those pearly whites. Just as your skin is growing and renewing at night, unfortunately so is the bacteria in your mouth - yuck! So give your teeth a good brushing and flossing, and maybe even reach for some fluoride mouthwash for some added protection.


2. Remove Makeup and Cleanse the Skin

Let's be real, we've all had one of those nights where we've hit the hay without bothering to wash off the residual makeup first. But remember how we talked about how your skin is more receptive to active ingredients at night? Well, this trait can be a blessing as well as a curse. Chemicals in your makeup and any dirt that has gotten trapped throughout the day can seep into your skin and cause pimples and clogged pores, so make it a priority to give your face a good cleanse every single night.

After you've cleansed, applying a toner helps tighten your pores and purify the skin, so make this your next step in your nightly passport to better sleep. Just put a few drops on a cotton ball, gently dab over your face and let it dry. Now you're ready to moisturize!


3. Apply Nighttime Serum and Moisturizer

5. Keep Your Hair Back

6. Moisturize... Again!

Of course, all of your cleansing and moisturizing is for naught if you're sleeping on a dirty pillow! Change your pillow case once a week, often enough to ensure that there's no oily buildup undoing all your skin care.


8. Get Plenty of Sleep

Since your skin needs sleep to repair and renew itself, not getting your full night's rest can interrupt that repair cycle and lead to wrinkles and other damage. Work on going to sleep earlier so that you can get a full eight hours every night. Not only will it do wonders for you complexion - you'll have more energy and feel better throughout your day too!
