7 Helpful Tips to Mask Your Worst Spring Allergy Symptoms

February 19, 2017 Team AHAVA

Spring is weeks away! Not only does this mean warmer weather, it also means an increase in pollen production that triggers a number of allergy symptoms such as puffy eyes, blotchy skin, and a runny nose. These allergy symptoms make you feel uncomfortable while also taking their toll on your appearance. Fortunately, you can take steps to mask these unflattering symptoms. Here are seven beauty tips to help you combat some of the most common spring allergy symptoms so that you can look refreshed and renewed throughout the entire season!

1. Red Nose

Apply a thin layer of foundation over your entire face and allow it to absorb. Repeat to build up more coverage, particularly around your nose. Then, dab yellow-toned concealer (one shade lighter than your foundation) down the bridge of your nose and around your nostrils. You may also wish to apply an allergen barrier balm around the edges of your nostrils to prevent pollen and other allergens from entering your nose.

2. Puffy Eyes

Place a cold compress over your closed eyelids for a few minutes, then apply AHAVA's Dead Sea OsmoterTM Eye Concentrate, which contains anti-inflammatory ingredients such as caffeine to help reduce puffiness. You should also limit your consumption of salty foods and alcohol, as both can cause fluid retention.

3. Bloodshot Eyes

Apply eye drops to help temporarily reduce redness and itchiness. Then, trace your upper eyelash line with dark brown or black eyeliner and apply a white or gold eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes to create the illusion of brighter eyes. Finish with a coat of navy blue waterproof mascara. Remember to use only hypoallergenic eye makeup to avoid irritating your sensitive eyes.

4. Dry Skin

Cleanse and exfoliate your skin to remove shed skin cells. Be sure to use mild, alcohol-free skin care products, as these won't wash away the natural oils that help to keep your skin healthy. Try AHAVA's new Mineral Radiance Cleansing Gel. It washes away all of your impurities while fighting exposure from external allergens and pollution for fresh, luminous skin. After washing your face, pat your skin dry with a soft towel and apply a moisturizer all over your skin to lock in moisture and combat flakiness. You should also avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, as both can dehydrate your skin.

5. Under-Eye Bags

Dab a small amount of AHAVA's Brightening & Anti-Fatigue Eye Serum around your eyes to help reduce dark circles and moisturize your skin. Then, use a color corrector in a shade that complements your skin tone to disguise discoloration. Finish with a layer of creamy foundation and/or concealer.

6. Blotchy Skin

Apply a green-tinted primer to areas of discoloration to help reduce redness, then put foundation and concealer on top. Avoid matte foundations, as these can accentuate skin dryness. Instead, choose creamy foundations and concealers with light-reflecting particles to hide discoloration and give your skin a healthy glow.

7. Chapped Lips

Gently buff your lips with a damp washcloth or soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any shed skin cells. Then, apply a nourishing lip balm containing dimethicone and petrolatum to lock in moisture and protect your lips from the elements. For a hint of color, choose a tinted lip balm in a light pink shade. Avoid brighter shades of lip balm, as these can highlight dryness and cracks. Remember to reapply your lip balm six to eight times throughout the day.

Masking your spring allergy symptoms doesn't have to be a challenge. By following these simple tips, you can look and feel your best during the spring allergy season. Leave a comment below if you're ready for spring to start! Love AHAVA.
